The Communications & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of communication systems, instrumentation, and control systems used within the plant. This role ensures the reliable operation of process control and communication systems while collaborating with engineering and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize system performance, and execute preventive maintenance.
Responsibilities:
Install, maintain, and repair communication systems, instrumentation, and control devices, including sensors, transmitters, and controllers.
Calibrate and troubleshoot industrial instrumentation and control systems to ensure optimal performance.
Maintain and configure communication networks (e.g., fiber optics, Ethernet, and wireless systems) to support plant operations.
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on communication and control systems.
Assist with the integration of new equipment and systems into existing communication and control frameworks.
Conduct system diagnostics to identify and resolve malfunctions in communication and instrumentation systems.
Ensure protective relay testing and proper operation of high-voltage equipment and associated communication systems.
Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to implement system upgrades or modifications.
Document calibration, repair, and maintenance activities accurately to support compliance and reporting requirements.
Adhere to safety standards and codes in all work activities.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Associate degree, technical training, or prior military experience
3+ years of experience working on industrial instrumentation, control systems, and communication technologies
2+ years of journeyman experience
Strong knowledge of PLCs and SCADA systems
Familiarity with Wonderware, Modbus, and other industrial communication protocols
Experience with fiber optics, networking, and wireless communications systems
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control diagrams
Experience in protective relay testing and high-voltage switchyard systems is a plus!
Proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating industrial instrumentation
