Introduction: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Project Manager with expertise in underground wet utilities and mass excavation to lead and oversee civil construction projects from start to finish. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of utility systems and earthwork, and a track record of successfully managing mid to large-scale civil projects within budget and on schedule. This role requires effective project oversight, team management, and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of quality projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Coordination:
Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of civil projects, including underground wet utilities (water, sewer, storm drainage) and mass excavation.
Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure the successful completion of projects.
Coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure all project requirements are met and understood.
Team Management and Supervision:
Oversee and manage project teams, including field staff, subcontractors, and consultants, ensuring efficient task execution and resource allocation.
Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, ensure adherence to safety protocols, and provide guidance to the team.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, providing leadership and mentorship to junior staff and field crews.
Budget and Cost Management:
Manage project budgets, ensuring all costs associated with labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors are tracked and controlled.
Monitor project financials, including forecasting, cost tracking, and change order management.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and propose solutions to keep projects within budget while maintaining quality.
Quality Control and Safety Management:
Implement and enforce quality control standards on all civil construction activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
Lead safety meetings, conduct site inspections, and ensure that all team members follow safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
Resolve any on-site issues related to quality or safety and work with stakeholders to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Schedule Management:
Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely completion of all tasks and deliverables.
Identify potential scheduling conflicts or delays and develop mitigation strategies.
Provide regular progress updates to clients and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project milestones and deadlines.
Client and Stakeholder Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Communicate project progress, issues, and solutions to stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships and managing expectations.
Handle project documentation, including contracts, change orders, RFIs (Requests for Information), and submittals.
Risk Management and Problem Solving:
Identify potential project risks and work proactively to mitigate them.
Troubleshoot issues and challenges on the job site, including those related to utility installation, excavation, permitting, or logistics.
Recommend solutions and alternative approaches to ensure project success.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
Minimum of 2 years of experience in civil project management, with specific expertise in underground wet utilities (water, sewer, storm) and mass excavation.
Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, underground utility systems, and excavation techniques.
Proficient in project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
Experience managing budgets, schedules, and project teams.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
In-depth knowledge of local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Project management certification (PMP, CCM, or equivalent) is preferred.
Experience with large-scale infrastructure or municipal utility projects.
Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) or 3D design software.
Proficiency in cost estimating and value engineering.
OSHA certification or other safety training is a plus.
