Job Summary:
We are seeking a Taxonomist to support research, data analysis, design, and implementation of taxonomies for Content Understanding. This role will involve collaborating with other Taxonomists on data analysis, taxonomy enrichment, design, and implementation to ensure quality and relevance. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing and managing taxonomies or ontologies, as well as strong collaboration and communication skills.
Job Responsibilities:
Detailed data analysis (Excel, Google Sheets, or scripting languages) to identify metadata trends and potential taxonomy quality issues.
Research (both internal and external) to enrich node metadata.
Proactive status reporting on progress, questions, issues, or potential opportunity areas with partners and stakeholders.
Implementation based on taxonomy governance guidelines.
Minimum Requirements:
2+ years of experience in developing taxonomies or ontologies to support a variety of systems both for front-end and back-end use.
Experience developing taxonomies, thesauri, or ontologies.
Experience researching and defining taxonomy and ontology node metadata based on existing standards.
Experience with a variety of topic/domain types.
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in developing taxonomies or ontologies.
Master's Degree in Library Science, Information Management, or Linguistics.
Experience with taxonomy or ontology management software (Semaphore preferred but not required).
Extensive experience with Excel or Google Sheets.
Must-Have Skills:
Experience developing taxonomies, thesauri, or ontologies.
Experience in researching and defining taxonomy and ontology node metadata based on existing standards.
Strong ownership and ability to self-start, build relationships with partners, and develop a point of view.
Nice-to-have Skills:
Experience communicating and presenting taxonomy principles and standards.
Experience work semaphore taxonomy tool.
Experience with LLMs to test classification.
