HOURLY RATE: $23.00 - 25.00 per hour (based on relevant experience)
WORK SCHEDULE: March 3-December 31, with flexibility on start and end dates and an opportunity to extend employment beyond 2025. Up to 29 hours per week (flexible weekly hours worked), typically an 8am-5pm schedule, with occasional evenings and weekend events. Some remote work possible.

Summary: The Water Conservation Program Assistant position is an hourly position (up to 29 hours per week) within the City of Fort Utilities Water Conservation Department. The City is seeking an individual who is interested in reducing the community's water use to help create a more resilient and sustainable water supply. Primary job responsibilities include assisting water conservation programs through customer engagement and support, inspections and water savings analysis. In addition to working closely with other water conservation staff and completing tasks independently, this position will spend some time outside of the traditional office environment working with the water utility customers and at community events. Other work includes research and data analysis for various water efficiency planning and program needs. No prior experience working specifically on water conservation and efficiency is required, just a passion for helping our community use our water resources wisely. Additional duties include assisting the Water Conservation Department in water shortage response planning and implementation, such as restrictions or voluntary response efforts, as needed. Duties and Responsibilities:
-Communicate the importance and value of water efficiency.
-Provide responsive customer service to internal and external customers.
-Represent Utilities at various engagement events across the community, sharing about water efficiency best practices, answering questions, and providing information.
-Monitor and respond to concerns across Water Utilities service area to support customers in understanding their water use, resolving potential leaks and other water waste.
-Support various water conservation projects through data analysis, research, reporting, and documentation.
-Manage and analyze data, including graph/figure creation using Microsoft Excel.
-Travel to and perform post-installation landscape inspections at customer's homes who have converted their lawns to water-wise xeriscaping.
-Use tablet or computer for data entry in the field.
-Manage inspection scheduling and administrative tasks.
-Other water conservation tasks as assigned.

If there is a declared water shortage, the program assistant may be responsible for the following:
-Email and phone communication and tracking related to water shortage response efforts
-Review and approval of related permits and registrations
-Compliance assistance related to water shortage response efforts (i.e water restrictions)
-Data management

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or college level courses leading up to a bachelor's degree in sustainability, horticulture, engineering, environmental science, hydrology, or similar field or equivalent experience is desired, but not required. Customer service and data management experience is preferred, but training will be provided.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to speak effectively to customers. Fluency in both English and Spanish is desired, but not required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems reasonably and effectively.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may need to climb up/down stairs, enter tight spaces, and bend over. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be working outdoors and will be exposed to all types of weather conditions, which could include heat, thunderstorms, and wind. The employee will also be exposed to water from sprinkler heads. The noise level in the work environment is usually low.
