Position Summary
WFS is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Supervisor to join our R&D Support Team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Engineering Supervisor reports to the R&D Support Manager and will lead a small group of multi-disciplined engineers designing new and modifying existing research projects for scientists, and researchers at the National Energy technology Laboratory (NETL) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Albany Oregon.
· Is in “responsible charge” of the quality, technical accuracy, and safety of all design work.
· Author, review, stamp and sign final design deliverables such as calculations, reports, models, drawings, and specifications.
· Ensure that projects assigned to direct reports are completed on schedule and within budget.
· Utilize software such as AutoCAD and Inventor to complete project design deliverables
· Lead design review meetings with all stakeholders
· Represent the Engineering group in all meetings to report on design progress & answer technical questions
· Estimate design work and work with planner/schedulers to develop long term engineering schedules
· Author and distribute detailed weekly schedules to direct reports
· Work with Operations to troubleshoot problems in the field during construction or startup
· Establish and/or revise work processes and procedures
· Identify and/or develop training & performance improvement plans for direct reports
· Hire staffing as needed and complete annual merit reviews
· Disposition non-conformance conditions identified by Quality Control.
· Foster a positive service-oriented culture within the group that focuses on getting things done
· Identify and work with subcontractors that can supplement or provide specialized engineering resources
· Enhance client relationships as it pertains to our R&D engineering support capabilities
· Adjust schedules and resource assignments to meet quickly developing research needs.
· Perform routine field walk-throughs with Site Manager(s) to observe construction activities and identify potential safety issues.
· Identify and train a back-up(s) to manage key tasks when absent.
· Additional functions not specifically outlined in this position description as directed by the R&D Support Manager.
· Active Professional Engineer’s (PE) license in the state of Pennsylvania
· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Control Systems Engineering.
· Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
· 10+ years of Engineering experience and 5 years’ supervision experience.
· Ability to find solutions for or to deal proactively with work-related problems.
· Excellent verbal communication skills. Must be able to lead large meetings and navigate difficult conversations with ease.
· Highly proficient user of MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
· Highly functioning and resourceful team-player, with the ability to work independently and balance multiple competing priorities and tasks.
· Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
· Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
· Ability to pass an extensive background investigation, including but not limited to personal and professional financial history, nationwide criminal record search, credit check and other relevant background information deemed necessary by WDC.
· Master’s degree in engineering.
· Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)
· Safety Trained Supervisor (STS)
· 5+ years supporting DOE research projects at the NETL
· Prior knowledge or experience working with a Native American Tribe.
This job requires performing repetitive lifting of moderate weight, ability to climb stairs and ladders and stand
for up to 4 hours per day and be able to work with epoxies, solvents, glues, and other chemicals. The technician
must have the ability and willingness to work occasional overtime on short notice in response to operation and
emergency requirements. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by
an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be

Quarterly travel to Albany Oregon will be required. Periodic local travel may also be required.
