A Day in the Life
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be a member of the new product development team that supports the design and development of innovative products within the Surgical Business. You will be spending time delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies - from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills. \t

You will:

  • Design, implement, test and debug software for medical device products

  • Participate in requirements gathering, estimating and planning

  • Create documentation throughout the development process

  • Commit to achieving and exceeding project goals and timelines

  • Perform duties in compliance with the Quality System

  • Contribute towards generation of systems software engineering policies, standards and procedures.

  • Work with other disciplines to develop system-minded implementations that take into account safety, performance, communication, user interface and other aspects of a final product

  • Contribute to defining the direction for new products, processes, standards, or operational plans based on business strategy

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Computer Engineering or equivalent


  • 7 + years experience with C/C++ in a Linux development environment or

  • Advanced degree and 4 yrs experience in a Linux development environment

Nice to have:

  • Experience with C++ 11 or above.

  • Experience in embedded Linux and real-time applications

  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Development and familiarity with UML

  • Working knowledge of software development best practices

  • Medical device experience

  • Experience with DDS, Linux Yocto, SQLite, Cybersecurity, GUI frameworks.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$140,800.00 - $211,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
