The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice practical nursing. LPN (IV) will have successfully completed a Board approved basic intravenous therapy course. The LPN, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), perform duties that require a basic knowledge of nursing principles and the ability to perform technical skills in carrying out nursing procedures that are culturally based and age specific.Graduate of an accredited LPN program. The LPN (IV) will have completed a Board approved intravenous therapy course. |State of Ohio Practical Nursing license. BLS. | Strongly recommend 2 year's pediatric experience and/or an outpatient clinic/office setting.PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY)

Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Performs all LPN Duties:

Maintains the readiness of patient care areas. Reviews the day's schedule and prepares charts as needed. Obtains height, weight, vital signs, growth measurements, chief complaint, and other pertinent patient data. Documents appropriately in patient's record. Assists with chronic disease management under the supervision of RN and physician. Assists and/or performs procedures, testing and injections as ordered by physician that fall within the LPN scope of practice competently and completely, included but not limited to immunization and other medication injections, EKG's, hearing and vision screening, venipunctures and fingersticks, pulse oximetry and nebulizer treatments. Assists the physician with exam and treatment procedures. Reviews lab results and checks for accuracy and completeness daily. Maintains log of all immunizations given. Schedules diagnostic tests appropriately.

Performs Telephone Triage:

Returns patient and parental/family phone calls in a timely manner. Manages new prescription and refill requests in a timely manner. Schedules patient visits for acute and time sensitive needs appropriately. Example: scheduling Depo Provera injections within the time frame as directed by the physician. Consults with RN or physician when appropriate. Treats patients and family respectfully and courteously on the phone. Answers questions appropriately. Triages potential emergency phone calls appropriately. Notifies physician immediately. This includes telephone calls for potential emergency conditions and critical labs or tests. documents all patient related phone calls appropriately, including date and time of call, date and time of response, and full signature with credentials.

Meets Educational Needs of Patients:

Identifies learning needs of patients and parents and assists in establishing teaching goals. Provides basic infant care needs to new mothers and reviews as needed. Provides basic diabetic education and reinforces at future visits. Reviews and explains immunizations with parents and adult patients prior to administration. Teaches and reviews basic health promotion at yearly physical exams and more frequently if needed.

Assists in Maintaining an Efficient System to Enhance the Office's Operations While Considering Patient and Family Needs:

Fully documents and completes medical records for all interactions. Follows office procedures and protocols at all times. Completes health related forms including workman's compensation, immunization records, childcare and Health Start forms, and other health related forms as needed by the patient or family. Assists in maintaining medical records.

Performs Opening and Closing Duties in Clinical Area:

Assures pharmacy, lab and other cabinets are secure at all times. Orders medications and immunizations as needed. Appropriately disposes of expired medications. Assists in maintaining and cleaning equipment (WKG machine, blood glucose monitor, etc). Performs daily point of care testing quality controls.

Handles Emergency Situations:

Recognizes signs and symptoms of potential emergency conditions in both adult and pediatric patients and acts appropriately. Examples: administers oxygen, obtains fingerstick blood sugar, assists with resuscitation.PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY)
