Job Description
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of the Office of Disabilities (ODS), the Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing services and projects with the intended end result of success for students with disabilities at Stevens Institute of Technology. Key aspects of this position involve compliance with federal and state regulations; working directly with students with disabilities; ensuring accommodations, advocacy, and/or guidance; serving as a professional resource to faculty and staff; representing ODS in meetings with potential students, faculty/staff in-services, committee meetings, and external venues to market the ODS office.
Responsibilities
1. Assist students with disabilities with the ODS registration process; instruct students in correct procedures for completion and submission of forms and applications; explain requirements and restrictions; review submitted forms and applications for completeness
2. Conducts one-on-one meetings with students to develop learning and life strategies that promote student success, specifically focusing on developing skills in time/stress management, managing freedoms, goal setting, creating study plans, preparing for tests, utilizing individual learning styles and other student success skills and strategies
3. Works closely with other university departments to provide institutional resources, assistance, and guidance to students to overcome barriers to success
4. Fosters the development of critical and creative thinking skills, problem solving, learning strategies, and inter-and intra-personal skills to result in improved success in and outside of the classroom, and more connections to the campus community
5. Provides follow through and tracks the status of services provided through assessment and evaluation
6. Manages, distributes, and tracks technology and materials pertaining to facilitation of note-taking services
7. Leads structured student groups, workshops, and presentations and other outreach programming.
8. Assists students with requests for alternative media for course work
9. Recruits and supervises students providing note-taking services
10. Collects statistical data and develops semester, annual and ad hoc reports as assigned
11. Provide oversight and administer exam proctoring system, including planning procedures, coordination of/with students, faculty, and staff, and resolving problematic situations.
12. Collaborate with unit staff and campus partners to meet department goals and objectives.
13. Create and conduct training and provide resources to educate students, faculty, and staff about disability and accessibility related topics.
14. Participate in department projects such as annual assessment, college fairs, college transition programs, divisional, and other university committees.
15. Participate in all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, or related area.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with and coaching students with disabilities in a secondary or higher education
Experience providing support services for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Experience and knowledge of assistive technology
