Primary Function:


Performs detailed structural engineering analysis and design work for projects of varying size, type and complexity. The ideal candidate must have a working knowledge of conventional aspects of design engineering and be capable of planning and conducting tasks requiring code interpretation in the analysis and design evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification to meet the requirements of the bridge design code and standards referenced therein so as to produce a finished work product that proves the analysis, design engineering, and project criteria are adequate to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public. All work will be conducted under the direct supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer. Successful characteristics include strong analytical skills, clear and effective communication, a high level of organization, and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.


Key Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s Degree (master’s degree preferred) in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program with emphasis in structural course work.

  • 0 to 3 years of structural experience with Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certificate registered is required. 

  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design code a plus.

  • Experience with analysis and design of anchor bolts, base plates, including bolted and welded steel connections a plus.

  • Experience with Leap Bridge Concrete (Conspan & RC-Pier), MDX, FB-MultiPier, GT STRUDL, and MicroStation is a plus.

  • Efficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills are preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Assist senior staff in conducting preliminary studies, performing preliminary analysis and design and preparation of sketches for preliminary engineering reports for structural projects including bridges and other transportation structures related to infrastructure projects.

  • Preparation and processing of structural documents/studies for review by senior engineer to meet QA/QC guidelines.

  • Assist during analysis to determine code-based load and load combinations applicable to the project to be used during detailed design.

  • Prepare engineering calculation packages and engineering sketches; reviewing criteria and drawings; generating project specifications and technical reports; assisting the team in the preparation of design documents; and coordinating design with drafting team and various design disciplines.

  • Develop drawings and technical specification packages that adequately depict the work to be constructed for projects to comply with applicable codes and standards.

  • Perform onsite observations during the course of construction to verify structures are being constructed in accordance with applicable codes and standards and as depicted on the structural drawings.

  • Reviews vendor submittal drawings, steel fabrication drawings, concrete mix designs and other submittals related to the project, during the construction process.

  • Evaluates Requests for Information (RFI’s) from the general contractor to determine the need for design changes and makes appropriate recommendations to the Engineer of Record for verification and approval for response to the RFI.
