Job Description:

Job purpose



The purpose of this position is to oversee and ensure safe, quality and timely production of rotary or sliced veneer products. Responsible for the daily shift activities for the department they are assigned to. Process Lead will lead their team in safe and effective execution of production plans using a structured lean work and management system. This includes leading effective response to abnormal conditions, leading problem-solving activities to bring the performance of each process up to standard and supporting continuous improvement efforts in their area.



Duties and responsibilities



  • Assist by filling in for absenteeism.

  • Process Lead coaches out of standard items.

  • Problems solves good and bad days for opportunities.

  • Uses quality gates properly. Responds to and-on's when needed. Pulls and one when needed.

  • Must always have a C-4 or 5 why in process.

  • Helps maintains inventory accuracy.

  • Ensures all team members in the area are trained.

  • Perform standard work audits. If out of standard, then task on task list.

  • Perform 5S audits. If out of standard, then task on task list.

  • Completing JI training as needed with crew members.

  • Updates Standard work and 5S documents.

  • Monitors breaks, startups/shutdowns, PM's, cycle times, Mechanical downtime problem solving, and tasks on DMS board that relate.

  • Must be at or better on work cell run ratios. If not then task to get back to standard.

  • TPMs are a part of every position in the mill. This may include mandatory overtime for completion of TPM tasks.

  • Make sure LOTO is up to date and posted.

  • All LOTO procedures are followed.

  • Reach cards filled out for upset conditions.

  • Process Leads must know and follow Lock out and tagged out safety procedures. PPE - appropriate footwear, hearing protection and eye protection.

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications and Education



Qualifications include:


Knowledge of safe manufacturing practices in a lean environment, supervisory skills, and production knowledge. Computer skills necessary with knowledge of Microsoft applications and timekeeping. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form.



  • Ability to plan and perform unusual and difficult work and make decisions involving the use of considerable ingenuity.

  • Ability with lightweight materials and occasional work with average weight materials.

  • Position must concentrate mental and visual attention while closely planning and laying out complete work. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Moderate computer skills needed. (Ex: Links, Email, Excel, Word, etc.)


    Education:


    Two-year certificate from college or technical school preferred; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. High School diploma and/or GED.



    Working conditions



    Working conditions include industrial machinery noise, indoor/outdoor exposure, office, and occasional travel.



    Physical requirements



    Must be able to sit or stand for extended durations. There may be instances where repetitive movement is necessary. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


    • Will be exposed to different temperatures.

    • Must be able to climb/stand/walk, 8-9 hours per day.

    • Must be able to bend/stoop frequently.

    • Occasionally must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs.

    • Occasionally must be able to kneel/crouch, push/pull.
