The U Innovation Office has an exciting job opportunity for a Director of The Launch Pad reporting to the Vice Provost of U Innovation at the University of Miami.

The Launch Pad works with students, alumni, and faculty to assist them in bringing their commercial venture ideas to life.


The Director manages the Launch Pad, a resource center for entrepreneurs and innovators in the University of Miami community, offering monthly programming, start-up assistance, and other services. The Director develops and facilitates the growth and strategic direction of The Launch Pad and its role within the University ecosystem and manages all Launch Pad Programming, outreach, and external relations. The Director works with leadership to develop metrics of performance and monitors achievement of goals for the program.




CORE JOB FUNCTIONS



Oversees daily consulting, advising, and mentoring of entrepreneurs and those considering entrepreneurship; in particular, regarding the development of organizational and leadership skills to properly develop a venture. Consults, advises, and mentors entrepreneurs who may be involved in companies at every stage from inception to growth to maturity. Manages the venture consulting program to maintain a cohesive, full-service experience for entrepreneurs. Ensures maintenance of the database, status reports, and documentation of the Launch Pad Consulting Program. Facilitates and promotes entrepreneurship programs and seminars including identifying coaches, speakers, sponsors, and program content. Raise awareness and understanding of the University of Miami Launch Pad across the University community. Represents The Launch Pad at events or for press, including pitching articles and working with University Communications to develop and execute a strategy to enhance program and student venture press coverage. Trains and supervises staff employees and oversees employee training and monitoring of student employees. Works closely with U Innovation Finance Manager to prepare, implement, and monitor TLP's budget. Supervises Launch Pad staff, including Assistant Director(s)/Program Manager, Administrative Staff, fellows, and work-studies. Oversees the implementation of new programs, initiatives, strategies, and processes for The Launch Pad, including the development of new and strengthening of existing relationships with internal and external partners. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained in these areas. Develops both short-term and long-term strategic and operational plans to align partnership with UM Career Services goals, specifically The Launch Pad at the University of Miami, including evaluating current procedures and practices to look for operation efficiencies.

Education:


Master's degree in business, management and/or leadership preferred.




Certification and Licensing:

Experience:


Minimum 8 years of relevant experience. Experience in an academic environment is a plus. Formal experience starting, growing and/or managing a small business or entrepreneurial endeavor. Experience with engaging and supporting emerging entrepreneurs is required. Experience with connecting and developing relationships with key stakeholders in an innovation ecosystem/community. Any appropriate combination of relevant education and/or work experience may be considered.

Strategic Leadership: Creates and implements a comprehensive strategy to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.



Venture Development: Identifies and supports new business ventures through mentorship, guidance, and resource allocation.



Innovation Ecosystem: Builds partnerships with universities, research institutions, and industry leaders to create a supportive environment for innovation.



Entrepreneurship Education: Develops and delivers training programs to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge.



Community Engagement: Promotes entrepreneurship and innovation within the community through events, networking opportunities, and outreach initiatives.



Performance Measurement: Tracks and analyzes key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of entrepreneurship and innovation programs.



Funding Acquisition: Researches and secures potential funding sources (e.g., government grants, donations, corporate partnerships) to support entrepreneurship and innovation initiatives.



Network Building: Establishes and maintains relationships with key stakeholders to create a vetted network of individuals for the center and the clientele.



Event Planning and Execution: Organizes and hosts innovation-forward entrepreneurship events, conferences, and workshops to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.



Data Analysis: Uses data analytics to track the performance of entrepreneurship programs and identify areas for improvement.
