Position Overview:
The Safety and Environmental Assistant should be a dynamic, self-motivated individual to assist in the growth and conservation of our safe production culture in a customer service driven industry. They will assist in developing and updating safety and environmental programs, focusing heavily on the training and education of their coworkers.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Adhere to any and all local, state, and federal regulations as applicable, including US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), KY Department of Environmental Protection(KYDEP) as well as other regulatory agencies.
Develop, coordinate and present required training programs including New Hire Safety Orientation, Forklift, Decision Driving, and other training as required.
Identify and correct potential hazards to ensure that sites can consistently maintain regulatory compliance; monitor, interpret and analyze safety data to support business needs through inspection of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment.
Risk Tolerance - ensure that existing and newly hired employees receive training in risk tolerance and apply those principles in the performance of daily work.
Works with supervisors to develop plant safety procedures for their work areas and assists in ensuring that they are consistently followed.
Assist the Safety Manager with the implementation of CRH and Mountain Enterprises safety initiatives and compliance programs.
Life Saving Rules - know, understand and ensure adherence by employees, contractors, vendors and visitors to the Life Saving Rules.
Liaison with site safety teams/operations to support the management of regulations, projects, program awareness and company updates.
Investigates and maintains records of occupational injuries, illnesses, and equipment and property damage.
Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce coworkers' exposure to work hazards. Including risk assessment, proactive identification of potential loss sources and workplace assessments.
Revise and develop new Standard Operating Procedures as needed.
Make recommendations to purchase company safety supplies.
The ability to speak effectively in front of any size group.
Human Performance - support the human performance initiative to improve safety and operational performance.
Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a "need to know" basis.
Assist in maintaining documents such as Internal Traffic Control Plans (ITCP)/pedestrian segregation plans.
Regular and timely attendance is required.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
Required
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with 5+ years of practical work experience
Preferred
Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.E.) from four-year college or university, safety related focus preferred. OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, MSHA, and KYDEP regulation knowledge preferred. Safety and environmental field and facilitation experience preferred. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.
Work Requirements
Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
Travel to various work sites is required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when required.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas as stated by OSHA and/or company policies.
Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety Glasses, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, Dust masks & Hearing Protection.
