In Quality Assurance (QA), Team Leaders serve as a critical resource to associates and managers within Publix manufacturing facilities by being on-the-floor work participants with associates and covering for vacations and unplanned absences. This includes performing tasks and assuming specific responsibilities of the Department Manager in his/her absence, and planning and conducting job skill training for all associates. Team Leaders report to the Quality Assurance Department Manager.
Additional Responsibilities include:
HACCP Plan development, monitoring and data verification for all products and processes
maintain Food Safety and Quality Programs including SQF, allergens, SSOPs and other prerequisite programs
interaction with regulatory and external auditors (Florida Department of Agriculture, FDA, USDA and 3rd party auditors) which can include accompanying the auditor and corrective action plan follow up
interaction with plant management which includes assisting departments in researching quality-related issues
act as QA department point of contact in the absence of the QA manager
monitor and verify QA department responsibilities
effectively communicate food safety and quality programs using job instruction training techniques to QA as well as other department associates as needed
perform tasks in the work area (when necessary) which include:
being an on the work floor participant with production associates (when necessary)
cover for unplanned absences
schedule associate labor needs
promote and enforce associate quality and food safety standards
verify the maintenance of equipment, preventive maintenance and work orders
understand production and ability to execute department requirements
maintain Good Manufacturing Practices within the facility
be a role model for plant associates
track customer complaints, investigation and correspondence
lead and drive improvement of plant operations through continuous improvement projects
study and analyze KPI’s and data and apply to departmental improvement
plan and respond to out of the ordinary events
other duties as assigned
high school diploma or its equivalent
must be at least 18 years old
ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds, extended walking/standing (up to 14 hours a day), bending, squatting, and climbing ladders
knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
knowledge of Safety Data Sheets ( SDS), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
ability to demonstrate safe working habits
ability to learn and perform all positions
ability to work in a fast-paced environment
understanding of highly complex industrial/manufacturing equipment
ability to work well with others and be a team player
ability to work any shift, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
willingness to assist other team members in other areas
ability to perform steady and productive work for an extended period of time
ability to work efficiently with little or no supervision
possess basic math skills

Some college coursework in Business, Engineering, and/or Food Science
knowledge of laboratory (chemical and microbiological) and ability to be a resource to all departments
knowledge of food safety and regulatory compliance and ability to provide assistance to all departments
knowledge of HACCP and SSOP Programs and ability to train all associates in this area
department experience related to the position and
knowledge of general Publix and Manufacturing policies and procedures.
