The Quality and Food Safety Coordinator provides deep technical leadership to develop, maintain, and proactively improve Royal Canin - Fremont Site 'Quality and Food Safety programs. Under the supervision of the Site Q&FS Manager, this role provides technical expertise, consultancy, and a practical food safety approach to the site manufacturing operations. This role makes complex risk-based food safety decisions that enable the reliable delivery of products that meet all external legislative requirements and all internal Q&FS standards. The job involves FSSC22000 administration; training, auditing, problem-solving, and assuring corrective actions are properly implemented. The position promotes product safety and general product quality awareness acting as a liaison between manufacturing sites.

What are we looking for?

Minimum Qualifications:


  • BS Degree in Food Science, Meat Science, Dairy, Grain Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Agriculture, Agronomy or Genetics, and up to 3 + years in Food Manufacturing Industry.

  • Or equivalent experience in a Food Manufacturing environment working in Quality, Food Safety, Chemical Engineering, or Product/Process Development.

  • 4+ yearsof experience managing quality and food safety management systems in a manufacturing site responsibleposition related to Food Safetyor Quality and food safety management (i.e. FSSC22000, SQF, BRC, etc.).

  • Experience with regulatory and 3rd party audit requirements.

  • Experience with practical applied microbiology in factory environments.

  • Capable leader of teams and individuals with the ability to motivate and engage superiors, peers, indirect associates, and the global Q&FS community.

  • Advanced understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's).

  • Practices (GLP's), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Systems (HACCP).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Working knowledge of food safety, processing, and packaging technology is highly preferred.

  • Green Belt Certification is preferred.

  • HACCP Certification preferred.

  • Better Process School certified preferred.

What will be your key responsibilities?


  • Lead multiple Quality Management Process Elements (Internal Audit, FS-HACCP, CAPA, Management Review, etc).

  • Key User/Functional Expert for Q&FS Management Systems (NEXUS, Statistical Process Control Data Tools, SAP) including leading the rollout of new modules/system upgrades.

  • Manage regulatory, USDA/ FDA inspections, & corrective actions.

  • Develop and deliver Quality and Food Safety training when required (Food Defense, GMPs, QMP, HACCP).

  • Provides documentation for quality and logistics for special product exports and ingredients (USDA audits).

  • Leads the effective development and implementation of standards, processes, and new technology/methods and drives continuous improvement of food safety management at the manufacturing site.

  • Acts as a technical resource for the interpretation and ongoing application of food safety standards and regulations, as they relate to manufacturing operations, including but not limited to Global Microbiological Verification, Foreign Material Management, Mold and Mycotoxin, HACCP, and Food Defense and Fraud Standards.

  • Acts as Food Safety Coordinator, providing governance to HACCP Food Safety plans and managing validations of CCP and OPRP preventive controls.

  • Leads the Root Cause Analysis investigation of food safety incidents and drives effective implementation of corrective and preventative actions.

  • Interprets sensitive and technical data for potential impact on product safety and provides timely recommendations for the effective resolution of food safety issues.

  • Leads the development and deployment of Food Safety training across the manufacturing site.

  • Provides technical guidance and consultancy to the Food Safety Team to ensure that manufacturing processes and environments are microbiologically safe for producing new and existing products.
