Our firm is currently looking for a dedicated Energy Management Systems (EMS) Technician located in the downtown Los Angeles area. This position will have a focus on HVAC and related energy systems for a large educational facility construction program. This is a great opportunity to be part of one of the largest school bond programs in the country.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist with HVAC Controls Design and Submittal reviews.
Assist in reviewing utility data and energy usage to identify schools for recommissioning and retro commissioning.
Assist in reviewing EMS and energy data, and alarms to identify no cost/low-cost energy conservation measures.
Assist in the review of EMS, energy data, and alarms to identify preventive maintenance measures.
Perform site visits to investigate as built conditions on identified projects.
Implement low-cost to no-cost solutions or alternatives to projects/repairs of EMS systems at existing school sites.
Troubleshoot and resolve basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems.
Respond to basic warranty calls.
Calibrate systems requiring basic electronic test equipment.
Assist in managing In-House Commissioning Projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills Required:
Understanding of computer networking principles, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Ability to wire, start up, and troubleshoot basic HVAC maintenance issues.
Fundamental understanding of HVAC operations within a facility.
Utilize effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to communicate with various stakeholders, internal and external to the company.
Demonstrate an understanding of how project documentation impacts the project flow.
Ability to read blueprints.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently.
Demonstrate sound judgement and logical decision-making skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:
Education: Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s or associate degree in engineering (mechanical, computer science, electrical, information technology); OR a two-year technical degree in HVAC, Electronics-related studies with additional 2 years of experience to compensate for education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in building controls or a related field. Understanding of computer networking principles, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Ability to wire, start up, and troubleshoot basic HVAC maintenance issues. Fundamental understanding of HVAC operations within a facility.
