Position Description
Northern Improvement is seeking a motivated individual with a strong work ethic and a positive, problem-solving attitude to help lead projects and schedule crews and subcontractors. The Project Superintendent will supervise and manage assigned projects and is responsible for communicating work load and changes with all parties involved, co-developing, monitoring, and executing work plans and schedules with the General Superintendent and other members of the operations and management team.
Duties and responsibilities
Oversee road construction projects
Read and implement plans and specifications
Work professionally with the owner’s representatives to the standard of Northern Improvement’s expectations
Communicate effectively with project owners, estimators, field engineers, subcontractors, general superintendent, and the public
Effectively communicates the plan with the crew members, truck drivers, and plant managers
Provide positive support and encouragement to crews to keep crew members motivated
Timely completion and submittal of timecards, invoices, and work orders
Receive and prioritize daily work assignments and makes crew work assignments
Communicates daily plans as well as any disruptions with the general superintendent, trucking coordinator, and any other necessary parties
Work closely with general superintendent and other crew supervisors to ensure efficiency
Informs General Superintendent of performance or operational problems at work sites
Ensures safe work procedures and safe work practices are followed at work sites
Prepares and or assists with preparations of accident and injury reports
Assist General Superintendent to hire field crew
Can safely operate all equipment used in road construction
Capable of learning to utilize new methods and equipment
All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations
Position Requirements
Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in supervising road construction
GPS Grading Technology (Trimble) experience is a plus, but willing to train
Must possess a valid Driver’s License
Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment
Working conditions
Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
May be required to work 60+ hours, 6 days a week during peak construction season
Physical requirements
Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
Standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time
Ability to work long hours and nights
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
