This position requires significant experience leading teams of specialized team members with high levels of knowledge and subject matter expertise in the management of biological samples to support laboratory services.
As the Associate Manager for Logistics, you will be responsible to lead 4-5 Leads as direct report (with a total of 30-40 associates), provide mentoring, work direction, and administrative support, while fostering our 4I culture of integrity, innovation, intensity, and involvement.
Essential Functions:
Manages staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, behavioral and technical coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations.
Approves courses of action on salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations. Reviews and approves time records, expense reports, requests for leave, and overtime.
Promotes all aspects of PPD Equal Employment Opportunity policy and Affirmative Action Plan.
Ensures equipment is maintained as required per manufacturer; coordinates and reviews validation and maintenance procedures. Ensures sample chain of custody and business continuity objectives are met.
Oversees the following core tasks for productivity and quality - sample registration, requisition form entry, sample routing, data verification, sample storage, sample shipments to clients and third party labs, sample aliquoting, sample de- identification, sample destruction, and other tasks as required based on business need.
Provides basic support for IT processes.
Provides technical interpretation of study protocol requirements in relationship to sample handling, storage and disposition

Keys to Success
Education
Bachelor's degree in Scientific field (Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, etc)
1+ year of leadership responsibility
Previous experience in sample management that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 3-5 years).
In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Good working knowledge of scientific or clinical methods
Good problem solving and critical thinking skills
Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-tasls
Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills
