General Summary



Under moderate supervision, the Radiologic Technologist-Mammography will perform radiographic/mammographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. The employee will demonstrate a professional approach in their work, with emphasis on patient care and in their technical abilities to complete the requested exams promptly, while still maintaining patient safety. Be responsive in the need to use proper radiation safety principles, both for the safety of the patient as well as themselves and co-workers. When performing mammography duties patients served include adolescent to adult-geriatric. Patients served when working as a general radiographic technologist include infant through adult-geriatric.

Reporting Relationships



Reports directly to the Radiology Manager. No direct supervision; requires a complete "self starter"; monitoring schedule, following imaging protocols necessary to obtain desired results. Functions under the direction of the Radiology Director and the Medical Director of the Radiology Department.

Qualifications


High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from an approved and accredited radiologic educational program required. Registration from the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists, to include mammography accreditation and license as a Medical Radiation Technologist in the state of Maryland is required. Current BLS certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required.



Working Conditions



Work is high demand. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple demands. May be physically or verbally abused by patients. Expected to work on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays as necessary. Occupational exposure: Must practice established radiation safety principles; wear and maintain film/ring badges in the prescribed manner; wearing of lead apparel. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.



Physical Requirements



Standing, walking, stooping, bending (3-5 hours/shift). Reaching for and handling of equipment and supplies (5-8 hours/shift) (15-20 lb.). Manual dexterity for operating equipment. Visual acuity for viewing video display monitors and reading patient's charts (5-8 hours/shift). Acute hearing required to assimilate oral communication from patient, physician, family members, or other staff members approximately 90% of the time. Pushing, pulling, transferring and maneuvering stretchers and wheelchairs, with or without patients or ancillary equipment, occasionally with the assistance of others (5-8 hours/shift, weight may exceed 100 lbs), in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy.
