Job Summary

Kern River Transitional Care Center, a skilled nursing facility in Bakersfield, CA, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Maintenance Director to oversee the daily operations and long-term planning of our building's maintenance and repair needs. This position ensures the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of the facility and requires a hands-on leader with a strong background in building maintenance and compliance.
Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repair

• Oversee and perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and general repairs.


• Ensure equipment and systems are functioning properly and efficiently.


• Prioritize work orders and handle maintenance emergencies promptly.

Facility Compliance & Safety

• Maintain the facility in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as skilled nursing facility standards.


• Schedule and oversee required inspections, ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations.


• Implement and monitor safety protocols to protect residents, staff, and visitors.

Vendor & Contractor Coordination

• Identify, coordinate, and manage external vendors and contractors for specialized work.


• Obtain quotes for major repairs or projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and high-quality service.


• Oversee contractor work to ensure timely completion and adherence to standards.

Budget Management

• Assist in creating and maintaining the maintenance department budget.


• Track inventory, order supplies, and manage expenses to stay within budget.

Team Leadership & Staff Training

• Recruit, train, and supervise any maintenance staff, providing guidance and support as needed.


• Conduct regular performance evaluations and address any staff concerns or issues promptly.


• Foster a positive and productive work environment.

Record-Keeping & Documentation

• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and associated costs.


• Prepare reports and documentation for state and federal surveys and inspections.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).


• Previous experience in building maintenance or facilities management, preferably within a healthcare or skilled nursing environment.


• Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building repair.


• Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance requirements for healthcare facilities.


• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.


• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and effectively resolve issues in a fast-paced setting.


• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (may be required for errands and supply runs).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously throughout the facility.


• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


• Manual dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and technology related to maintenance tasks.
