Overview

The purpose of this position is to ensure the integrity and accuracy of all patient care health information stored in OHSU’s electronic medical record. This role performs a variety of functions related to the retention of Protected Health Information (PHI) documentation, and its security. Supporting Health Information Management (HIM) Document Imaging processes, primary functions will include but are not limited to: Prepping, scanning, review/indexing and quality assuring documentation into the EHR.

Individual Health Information Specialist 2 are expected to function in various capacities as outlined in the Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards section in support of the Document Imaging team’s productivity standards, standard work, service level agreements and goals.

Health Information Management staff are expected to support and actively engage in OHSU's Performance Excellence System (OPEx) as a foundational principle and method for improving department quality and efficiency and increasing the value of patient care through the continual improvement of Electronic Health Record documentation.



Responsibilities

Education:

High School diploma or GED; and Two years of general medical records processing and document imaging experience.OR

An Associate’s degree or certificate in Health Information Management, office

occupations or office technology and one year of general medical records processing

and document imaging experience;OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Experience:

  • Previous work experience with document imaging
  • Previous experience working in a large tertiary health care
  • Previous work experience working with an Electronic Health Record
  • Customer service skills.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work as a Team member, including effective communication, building trust, and respect with all team members.
  • Must be detail focused, demonstrating organizational abilities to follow directions and perform daily tasks
  • Multi-tasking skills, adept to changes that are sudden and last minute.
  • Proven ability to visually distinguish between good/poor quality images
  • Proven ability to perform both quality and quantity in daily assigned
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, medical documentation and medical forms.
  • Adept at process troubleshooting, requiring ability to backtrack work processes, step-by-step.
  • Demonstrable computer knowledge, & manipulate multiple software applications in, a single session without difficulty
  • Experience working with office- related equipment, including High/Low Speed scanners, Fax machines, Xerox copiers, paper-cutters, document shredders.
