The Senior Manager Data Governance role is responsible for providing leadership, organization, and direction to achieve corporate and department strategy through the execution of projects and initiatives within the Data Services - Data Governance team. This role is accountable for collaborating with business partners to develop a strong data governance program and practice for the enterprise focused on data standardization, data stewardship, data security, data quality, reference data management and metadata management. The Senior Manager Data Governance establishes team and individual goals that align with broader IT goals and develops operating plans in support of UNFI's strategic imperatives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Defines and implements a strategic plan for enterprise master data management, reference data management, and metadata management, including the creation and maintenance of enterprise data dictionaries
Leads initiatives focused on data standardization and data quality management
Supports enterprise training and change management initiatives on data management best practices and data stewardship
Partners with Business Sponsors and delivery teams to determine technical feasibility of proposed solutions for their business area
Develops partnerships with business leadership to ensure goal alignment, execution, and success
Partners with internal and external stakeholders to deliver mutual assured success
Collaborates cross-functionally across IT to ensure internal/external customer success
Triages and communicates issues impacting internal/external stakeholders
Lead strategic planning with business customers and in the annual operational planning cycle
Oversees determination of scope and business requirements for data governance projects
Reviews and approves requests and proposals for the utilization of Data Governance resources and works with external vendors as needed
Manages the execution and delivery of department projects, including problem definition, and recommendation of changes to technology, infrastructure, or processes
Maintains customer relationship and integration of activities through regular communications with business/IT managers and directors
Collaborates with business and IT teams to ensure data quality, consistent application of data definitions, and adherence to data management standards
Develops project plans including resource and budget requirements; provides input into budgeting process regarding area expenses such as travel, training, etc.
Stays abreast of emerging technologies and trends in Information Technology, Data Management, and Advanced Analytics disciplines and retail business areas the company serves in order to drive innovation into the organization
Maintains an environment where all understand, and are committed to, providing excellent service to internal and external customers
Contributes to the ongoing evolution of process/methodologies that pertain to the software development lifecycle, solution delivery, people management, business process and/or information services
Leadership and Coaching:
Accountable for all aspects of managing the team including: setting goals and objectives, managing performance, developing associates, staffing, promotions and salary administration, manages performance utilizing organization's performance management system, practices and tools; applying them to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/ Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in the field of data science, computer science, information systems, or software engineering, or equivalent work-related experience required
MBA or master's degree in business or technology related field preferred
Experience:
8+ years of relevant Information Technology experience required
6+ years of successful data management solutions implementation experience required
4+ years of management experience leading a team(s) composed of associate and contract resources in multiple locations, including offshore required
3+ years of data management and data analysis experience required
Demonstrated ability to influence key IT and Business leaders
Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting approaches and align to corporate and department strategic roadmaps
Previous experience developing, setting, and managing department level goals and priorities
Proven ability to manage in a matrix structure
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of enterprise data management and data governance concepts
Strong knowledge of system development lifecycle and enterprise architecture
Strong knowledge of Wholesale, Retail, Transportation, Distribution or Manufacturing industry preferred
Strong knowledge of Agile/iterative SDLC methodology
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer focus and interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to work in geographically dispersed teams
Ability to manage competing priorities
Ability to create process and process design where none or little exists
Ability to create strategic landscape that delivers against IT goals
Ability to apply logical thought process and learn new systems, concepts, and procedures
Ability to build strong teams across dispersed work locations, including mentoring and providing developmental goals

Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.
