SummaryTulane University is seeking a part-time Violence Intervention Specialist, available evenings, nights, and weekends, for a grant-funded research project entitled Supportive Hospital-based Intervention for Firearm Trauma (SHIFT). This research project is part of the Center for Youth Equity, a larger CDC funded effort by Tulane, to decrease rates of youth violence in our community.
The Violence Intervention Specialist is responsible for enrolling hospitalized gunshot victims into a research project designed to provide ongoing case management support, which includes screening potential participants during treatment for a gunshot wound at University Medical Center (UMC), obtaining informed consent, and completing an assessment. Additionally, this position assists with scheduling and conducting follow-up sessions and assessments. The Violence Intervention Specialist works closely with UMC staff providing additional violence intervention services for patients, as well as other medical and nursing staff.
* Associate's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, or a related field.
* Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, or a related field.* Experience in the development and delivery of violence prevention programs. * Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and demonstrated evidence to manage a high case load of individuals who may be non-compliant with treatment recommendations and who might need continued prompting maintenance of scheduled appointments.* Strong connections with social service organizations in greater New Orleans who would be used both partners and referral sources for violence prevention efforts.* Strong relationships with the community and with community organizations that have been established to provide support and opportunity to lower income residents of New Orleans.
