RESEARCH SPECIALIST B/C at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

Duties: Under limited supervision, perform multiple research experiments investigating mechanisms of mitotic chromosome segregation.


Research Specialist B:
Prepare novel DNA constructs with modified genes (truncated, tagged, with site mutations, etc) using advanced molecular biology techniques. Express and purify recombinant proteins from bacterial and insect cultures. Perform microscopy and computer image analyses. Participate in other on-going experiments. Order and maintain supplies, equipment and other lab stocks. Manage waste disposal. Perform other duties as assigned.


Research Specialist C:
All duties listed above plus the following: Design and plan experiments. Design and write protocols. Analyze data and write lab reports. Present data at conferences and meetings. Prepare scientific reports and manuscript submissions.

Qualifications: Research Specialist B:
Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years previous laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience with molecular biology methods and advanced protein biochemistry required. Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office, required. Must have strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with other lab members.


Research Specialist C:
Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years previous laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's Degree preferred. Extensive experience with molecular biology methods and advanced protein biochemistry required. Expertise in designing and purifying recombinant proteins required. Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office, required. Must have strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with other lab members.
