UNDERSTANDING

The Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager has the overall responsibility for the Quality Assurance department. This leader is responsible for maintaining and developing improvements to the quality management system in a manner that supports regulatory compliance, company policies, and operations. As such, they build the strongest relationships with operational and supporting departments by being upfront and collaborative with team leaders from other departments.

This person is a transformation leader. They look at processes performed within the Quality Assurance department and identify ways to build efficiency and consistency within them. They use data as a proactive solution to identify issues. The decisions they make are bound in facts gathered from reliable sources. They understand perfection is impossible, while never faltering from their goal of achieving it.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create and enforce food safety and quality protocols based on regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Ensure that the food production processes comply with local, state, and federal food safety laws and regulations.
  • Prepare for and support third-party and regulatory audits, ensuring any compliance issues are resolved promptly.
  • Train and supervise staff on food safety and quality assurance practices. Ensure that all employees understand and adhere to necessary procedures and standards to maintain product integrity.
  • Oversee the raw material and finished product testing analysis and review of results testing to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Identify potential food safety risks and quality issues within the production process and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Continually seek ways to improve food safety and quality systems, processes, and outcomes.
  • Lead routine customer Quality meetings and conference calls. Participate in customer visits and Quality audits.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of all FSQA activities for compliance and traceability.
  • Manages a food safety team, organizes its work, and ensures relevant training and education of the food safety team members.
  • Ensures that the food safety management system is established, implemented, maintained, and updated, and reports to senior leadership on the effectiveness and suitability of the food safety management system.
  • Directly oversee the Quality Assurance team and ensure daily responsibilities are completed and project timelines are met.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORKING RELATIONSHIP
  • Reports to the Quality Operations Manager.
  • Communicates regularly and has a strong relationship with team members in multiple departments.
  • Communicates and meets periodically with other departmental leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a quality leadership role with direct reports.
  • Experience in dietary supplement manufacturing is a plus.
  • Experience in state and government audits required.
  • Understanding of 21 CFR Part 117 and 21 CFR Part 111 regulations.
  • Experience in participating in 2nd and 3rd party audits required.
  • Experience in generating and maintaining SOPs and related documents.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - team player.
  • Hard worker who is a self-starter and proactive.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • HACCP, SQF, and/or PCQI certification required.
  • Great verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English.

EDUCATION
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree or commensurate experience.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or a G.E.D.
