Job Description:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
  • This position serves as the primary staff resource for the space planning and space allocation for the hospital working from the strategic priorities set by senior leadership, the Health Facilities Planner plans and executes the allocation of physical space in the hospital.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under the direction of the Director of Project & Space Planning, this position oversees space planning, space allocation and implementation of all space moves for the hospital.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Interfaces directly with the hospital's clinical and non-clinical leadership to understand their space needs, related to their operational objectives.
  2. Makes recommendations to senior leadership, regarding the optimal utilization of physical space at the hospital.
  3. Oversees the coordination of various departments including Facilities, EVS, IT, and Telecomm, to ensure successful space moves.
  4. Engages third party vendors for moving disposal and delivery of furniture and equipment.
  5. Purchases equipment, and furniture related to moves within the hospital.
  6. Makes recommendations for optimal aesthetic solution for hospital physical plant, given realistic financial constraints.
  7. Working with Office of Facilities Development, to ensures timely completion of space allocation projects involving construction and renovation.
  8. Manages stewardship of hospital resources by refurbishing furniture, buying used furniture, moving, storing equipment, and furniture for further use.
  9. Using project management software, ensures successful completion of implementation milestones and goals.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A Baccalaureate or Master's Degree that is the first professional degree in Architecture issued upon completion of a course of study approved by the National Architectural Accrediting Board or a valid New York State Registration as an Architect; and,

2. Four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in the architectural field in the planning of health facilities, two years of which shall have been in a responsible supervisory capacity. A Master's Degree in Architecture other than that which may be required for the first professional degree will be accepted as a substitute for the architectural experience requirement on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years; or,

3. A Master's Degree in Public Health, Hospital Administration, Nursing Administration or a related field issued by an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in hospital administration, two years of which shall have been in a responsible supervisory capacity in the planning of health facilities.
