Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated, creative and self-driven scientist to play a leading role in our Enzyme Engineering Team. As an early hire, you will play an integral role in developing the scientific direction and culture of our company. The ideal candidate will be technically savvy with a demonstrated ability to devise creative solutions to experimental challenges. This hire will be responsible for leading enzyme characterization and engineering campaigns and will play a significant role in developing our therapeutic enzymes. Deep expertise in biochemistry and enzymology is essential. Required Experience and Skills
Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Chemistry, or a related discipline
Rigorous and detail-oriented experimentalist
Technical proficiency with core molecular biology and protein expression and purification techniques
Experience with enzyme characterization or engineering projects (e.g., assay development, substrate profiling, kinetics, directed evolution or rational enzyme design)
Ability to work with teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting
Core responsibilities
Take ownership of one or more in-house enzyme engineering projects
Undertake thorough literature searches to devise novel ideas and creative approaches
Apply directed evolution and rational enzyme design methods
Develop assays to characterize novel enzyme activities
Report results to the team and collaborate on patents and scientific publications
