The PACS Administrator is responsible for the daily management, maintenance, and support of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and related imaging systems. This role ensures the seamless operation of PACS within the radiology department and across integrated clinical environments. The PACS Administrator collaborates with IT teams, radiologists, and other clinical staff to ensure optimal system performance, data integrity, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
System Administration
Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the PACS system.
Monitor system performance, ensure uptime, and address technical issues promptly.
Manage system backups, archiving, and data recovery processes.
User Support and Training
Serve as the primary point of contact for PACS-related issues, providing technical support to radiologists, technologists, and clinical staff.
Train users on system functionality, workflows, and best practices.
Develop and maintain user manuals and training materials.
Integration and Interoperability
Ensure seamless integration between PACS and other clinical systems, such as the Radiology Information System (RIS), Electronic Health Records (EHR), and Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA).
Collaborate with IT teams to manage HL7, DICOM, and other interface standards for data exchange.
Data Management and Quality Assurance
Monitor and maintain the integrity, accuracy, and security of imaging data.
Oversee image storage, retrieval, and transfer, ensuring compliance with retention policies and regulatory requirements.
Conduct routine audits to ensure data quality and system performance.
Compliance and Security
Ensure PACS adheres to HIPAA, HITECH, and other healthcare data privacy and security regulations.
Collaborate with IT security teams to address vulnerabilities and implement safeguards.
Participate in risk assessments and disaster recovery planning.
Project Management
Lead system upgrades, migrations, and new installations in collaboration with vendors and internal stakeholders.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies or enhancements to improve workflows and efficiency.
