The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the stability and reliability of network services. This includes monitoring network performance daily and troubleshooting any network issues, as well as resolving hardware and software problems. The role also involves implementing network configuration changes and maintaining network monitoring tools, while generating reports based on network performance.
Another key responsibility is the installation and updating of network hardware and software. The candidate must be available to travel to the data center when necessary and participate in a weekly maintenance window, which takes place at 3 AM ET on Tuesdays. Additionally, the role involves managing network alerts, escalating issues to vendors, and handling provisioning tasks, such as IP assignment, network configuration, and managing leased lines.
The role also includes supporting security policies using solutions like Palo Alto and Cisco, and assisting with facilities provisioning, such as setting up hardware, power, and cabling. Maintaining technical documentation for processes and procedures is essential, and there will be an ongoing expectation to develop skills in network and system administration.
Finally, participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation is required to provide ongoing network support.
Basic Requirements:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience working with networking protocols like BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP, as well as vendor-specific networking operating systems such as NX-OS and IOS. The role requires the candidate to be located near a data center in Ashburn, VA or Phoenix, AZ and be able to travel to the data center when needed. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates should be self-starters who can work independently but also thrive in a team environment. Professional certifications, such as CCNP or JNCIP, are preferred, as well as experience with firewalls, particularly Palo Alto.
