A public sector client of ours in Austin, Texas is looking for a Database Administrator for a 6-month remote contract opportunity that is likely to extend. Due to the nature of the role, they are currently only considering remote candidates local to or around the Austin area.
The position involves managing and maintaining database systems, specifically supporting Oracle databases on Oracle Exadata systems and MSSQL Server Enterprise for critical applications in the TIERS project. The role requires a focus on database performance tuning, software maintenance, disaster recovery, and user/database security. This position will play a critical role in supporting cloud migration efforts, code releases across multiple environments (development, test, production, training, and disaster recovery), and enhancing the disaster recovery process to reduce workload. The worker will be required to provide on-call support during releases and maintenance, and assist with troubleshooting and data corrections in production databases.
Job Description:
Database Creation and Monitoring: Enters codes to create production databases and uses utility programs to monitor database performance, including the distribution of records and available memory.
Database Management: Directs programmers and analysts in making changes to the database management system, reviews and corrects programs, and ensures proper monitoring and adjustment to the database environment as needed.
Database Performance Tuning: Modifies database programs to improve processing performance and implements performance tuning strategies.
Collaboration and Analysis: Confers with coworkers to determine the impact of database changes on other systems and assess staff costs for making changes.
Data Modeling and Prototyping: Performs logical and physical data modeling, designs relational database models, and creates physical data models from logical ones.
Database Security and Disaster Recovery: Implements database search strategies, security recovery procedures, and works on disaster recovery procedures and systems, ensuring database security standards are maintained.
Data Integrity and Redundancy Control: Coordinates the use of data to ensure integrity and control redundancy, loads and reorganizes databases as necessary.
Technical Assistance: Provides technical assistance to users for new data elements and systems, ensuring they are incorporated into the shared data environment.
Performance Monitoring and Recommendations: Monitors database performance and recommends efficiency improvements to enhance system functionality.
User Interface Accessibility: Ensures that user interfaces for database administration and data input/output comply with EIR Accessibility standards and provides support when accessibility issues arise.
Support for Cloud Migration: Provides additional support due to increased demand from the cloud migration efforts, assisting with code releases, maintenance, and performance tuning in all environments (development, test, production, training, and disaster recovery).
On-Call Support: Provides on-call support during code releases, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Cross-Functional Support: Assists the PSR Team with analyzing, troubleshooting, and executing data corrections in production databases.
Minimum Job Requirements:
8 Years Required: In-depth knowledge of Oracle internal views, shell & SQL, and PL/SQL scripting.
8 Years Required: Experience managing Oracle databases versions on Linux systems, including shell scripting and tuning.
8 Years Required: Solid experience in managing Oracle version 19 databases, Real Application Clusters (RAC), and Active Data Guard.
8 Years Required: Experience developing tools to administer large numbers of test & development database environments.
8 Years Required: Experience with on-call and providing 24x7 coverage for supporting Production & Development database systems.
8 Years Required: Experience designing, installing, and maintaining large-sized databases.
8 Years Required: Thorough knowledge and working experience in setting up infrastructure for databases in data centers at multiple sites, including cloud infrastructure.
8 Years Required: Working experience in moving live production, development, and testing databases and applications hosted in different physical sites.
8 Years Required: Experience with administration of Oracle database on Oracle Exadata database machine, including configuration and patching.
8 Years Required: Experience with administration of MSSQL Server, EDB PostgreSQL Enterprise databases.
8 Years Required: Experience with migration, configuration, and support of Oracle databases on AWS cloud infrastructure (others considered).
8 Years Required: Experience performing database refreshes/clones and providing support for building development and testing databases.
8 Years Required: Experience troubleshooting database software and its infrastructure and, where necessary, engaging and supporting the software vendor with problem analysis and resolution.
Preferred Qualifications:
8 Years Preferred: Experience using Remedy, ITSM, PPM, and ServiceNow.
