The Systems Administrator II will play a crucial role within the Legal Department, directly reporting to the General Counsel and supporting the technology needs of the agency's legal operations. This position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing IT infrastructure, with a strong focus on cloud-based systems, security management, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
The role requires technical expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS), system hardening, and automation, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of legal systems and data. In addition to managing IT operations, the Systems Administrator II collaborates with legal professionals to ensure that technology solutions align with the department's strategic objectives and compliance obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Legal IT Systems & Compliance
Configure and maintain legal case management systems, document storage platforms, and other IT resources critical to the Legal Department's operations.
Manage user accounts and implement security protocols to ensure confidentiality and compliance with data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
Ensure IT policies align with the department's regulatory and statutory obligations, including cybersecurity and e-discovery requirements.
Security Oversight
Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and system hardening measures to protect sensitive legal data.
Implement and manage secure access protocols, including bastion hosts, to safeguard privileged information.
Monitor security systems and logs to identify and mitigate risks that could compromise legal operations.
Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery
Develop and maintain secure backup systems to protect legal data and ensure availability during disruptions.
Facilitate disaster recovery exercises and incident response drills, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational policies.
Cloud Infrastructure Management
Deploy and manage AWS-based solutions tailored to the needs of the Legal Department, such as e-discovery platforms or document review tools.
Monitor cloud environments, ensuring secure and efficient handling of legal data while maintaining compliance with legal IT standards.
Automation & Operational Efficiency
Utilize automation tools like AWS CloudFormation to streamline legal workflows, including data redaction, document tagging, and privilege reviews.
Optimize resource allocation and costs to ensure the department's technology initiatives remain scalable and efficient.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Collaborate with the General Counsel and legal staff to address technical needs, ensuring alignment between IT capabilities and legal strategies.
Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of compliance, innovation, and operational excellence.
Provide training on IT tools and processes to enhance the department's use of technology in legal workflows.
Troubleshooting & Support
Provide advanced technical support for legal staff, ensuring timely resolution of IT-related issues affecting casework or compliance.
Analyze and resolve technical challenges in legal applications, hardware, and software.
Experience with legal IT systems such as case management or document review platforms.
Expertise in cybersecurity, backup and recovery procedures, and regulatory compliance (e.g., NIST, SOC 2).
Strong ability to document processes and maintain logs to support legal operations.
