Job Description:

Position Overview: The Assistant Estimator will play a key role in supporting the estimating department through detailed quantity surveys and material takeoffs for structural steel fabrication and erection projects. This role requires a highly organized individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for precision, contributing to the preparation of accurate project cost estimates and bid proposals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct detailed quantity surveys and material takeoffs from design drawings and specifications.
  • Assist in analyzing project documents to identify and document project requirements for materials and labor.
  • Support senior estimators by organizing and maintaining material and cost data.
  • Collaborate with the project team to ensure the accuracy and completeness of takeoff data.
  • Prepare and maintain records of quantities, costs, and other project data for reference.
  • Assist in identifying potential risks and discrepancies in project documents and communicate findings to senior estimators.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings to better understand project scopes.

Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (some post-secondary education in construction, engineering, or related fields is a plus but not required).
  • Basic proficiency with computers and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings is an advantage.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new software and processes.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Prior experience in construction or estimating is a plus but not required-we are willing to train motivated candidates.
