Position Overview: The Assistant Estimator will play a key role in supporting the estimating department through detailed quantity surveys and material takeoffs for structural steel fabrication and erection projects. This role requires a highly organized individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for precision, contributing to the preparation of accurate project cost estimates and bid proposals.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct detailed quantity surveys and material takeoffs from design drawings and specifications.
Assist in analyzing project documents to identify and document project requirements for materials and labor.
Support senior estimators by organizing and maintaining material and cost data.
Collaborate with the project team to ensure the accuracy and completeness of takeoff data.
Prepare and maintain records of quantities, costs, and other project data for reference.
Assist in identifying potential risks and discrepancies in project documents and communicate findings to senior estimators.
Participate in pre-bid meetings to better understand project scopes.
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (some post-secondary education in construction, engineering, or related fields is a plus but not required).
Basic proficiency with computers and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
Good organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings is an advantage.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new software and processes.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Prior experience in construction or estimating is a plus but not required-we are willing to train motivated candidates.
