Our Client, a growing construction company specializing in midstream compressor stations, metering stations, gas plants, and cryogenic gas plants in Houston, is seeking a visionary Vice President of Operations. As a rapidly growing, dynamic and ambitious company, they are looking for a leader who can help shape their future and contribute to their continued growth trajectory in the midstream market.
Responsibilities:
Manage and oversee all construction departments, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Develop and enforce operational best practices, including budget setup, project staffing plans, procurement strategies, quality and safety plans, and change management processes.
Serve as the integrator of all core construction functions, including construction management, field engineering, project controls, scheduling, planning, quality, safety, procurement, estimating, materials management, and HR.
Ensure proposal coordination with valid estimates, suitable contractual terms, and adherence to RFP requirements, while securing internal stakeholder approval per the Delegation of Authority (DOA).
Oversee client-facing project reporting, ensuring professional and timely submissions that reflect project status, risks, schedules, financial updates, and KPIs.
Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across all departments to enhance operational efficiency and project delivery.
Promote and maintain a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with regulations and protocols, and conducting regular safety inspections.
Foster a culture of servant leadership, mentoring, and team development to build a cohesive, high-performing organization.
Ensure project managers adhere to the construction playbook, executing timely project setups, budget management, procurement processes, and contractual compliance.
Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks to ensure smooth project execution and organizational stability.
Drive the adoption of innovative technologies and data-driven tools to improve operational efficiency and project delivery.
Ensure clear and consistent communication with stakeholders, including clients, partners, and internal teams, to align on project goals and deliverables.
Provide significant project status updates to the board, including risks, schedules, financial performance, and KPIs.
Partner with in-house software developers to implement operational tools and systems that drive efficiency.
Ensure team certifications, such as PMP and OSHA safety certifications, are maintained and leveraged for competitive advantage.
Oversee subcontractor selection, negotiation, and performance to ensure alignment with project goals and quality standards.
Develop strategies to scale construction operations, ensuring readiness for future growth and increased project complexity.
Report directly to the President of Construction, providing regular updates on departmental and project performance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
10-20 years of experience in heavy industrial oil and gas construction, general construction, and electrical/instrumentation..
Proven ability to lead large-scale construction projects and cross-functional teams with emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
Deep understanding of safety standards, estimating practices, and project execution in heavy industrial construction.
PMP or OSHA safety certifications preferred, demonstrating a commitment to professional excellence and safety.
NASCLA trade exam certification or state licenses preferred, showcasing the ability to obtain General Contractor licenses across multiple states.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and job cost systems such as Foundation Software.
