McCarthy is seeking a skilled and experienced Steel Estimator to manage the estimating process for structural steel projects, including detailed quantity take-offs and budget preparation through various design phases. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a proven ability to handle complex estimating tasks, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with project goals. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in delivering precise cost estimates that drive informed decision-making and contribute to overall project success.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform detailed quantity take-offs for structural steel projects.
Assist in developing conceptual budgets and estimates through the SD and CD phases of the design.
Utilize Tekla PowerFab for estimating and take-off processes.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to ensure accurate and efficient estimating.
Provide cost analysis and value engineering recommendations to optimize project budgets.
Prepare and present detailed cost estimates and bid proposals.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the industry trends and material costs.
Conducts reviews of milestone documents for the development and pricing of value alternative opportunities.
Actively participates in the internal estimate review process.
After the bid, collects and organizes all bid information for future reference.
Aids field operations with change order pricing if needed.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related major preferred
5+ years of experience in steel estimating.
Proficient in Tekla PowerFab for estimating and quantity take-offs.
Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications required
Must demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values while maintaining a "value added" approach to estimating.
Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
General knowledge of construction principles and processes, as well as negotiated/hard bids and GMP processes preferred.
