Posted in Other 2 days ago.

Job Description:

Albuquerque, NM (on-site Kirtland AFB)

The Ideal Candidate will:

Have mid-level system engineering experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) programs, preferably space programs/projects, with strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, space systems, space operations, and systems engineering principles and practices.

This opportunity allows you to support system engineering activities on a multi-contractor and government team for the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicle Rapid Architecture Prototyping and Integration Development (AFRL RVEX) Branch. AFRL RVEX's mission is to ease and accelerate the efforts of the United States Space Force (USSF) to pivot to new architectures and concepts of operations described in future Force Designs based on recommendations by the Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC). RAPID executes this mission three ways: Feed back (to inform SWAC analytics), Feed forward (to inform future requirements and acquisitions) and Provide Options (to expand the trade space for the future force). RAPID conducts hardware- and software-in-the-loop experimentation – to include modeling, simulation and field experiments, and integrates and exercises technologies to validate that real-world performance meets expectations.

In this role, you will report directly to the Aegis RVEX Project Manager and Aegis Integrated Experiments and Evaluation Division (RVE) Chief Engineer located at Kirtland Air Force Base (AFB) in Albuquerque, NM.

**Offer of employment is contingent upon contract award**

Responsibilities:

The Aegis Aerospace System Engineer (Mid-Level) will support AFRL RVEX projects, which include conducting experiments on high-altitude balloons; design, A&IT, and operations of small to EELV Secondary Payload Adapter (ESPA) Grande sized satellites; development of spacecraft and space payload representative digital models or “twins”; and streamlining the acquisition process between the stages of analysis, prototyping, enterprise testing, and establishment of programs of record (PORs). The Systems Engineer will:

Be accountable for systems engineering support to the AFRL RVEX Branch Chief and staff.

Report directly to Aegis RVEX Project Manager and Aegis RVE Chief Engineer.

Support in the development of space technology and flight experiment requirements, design, and interface control documentation.

Provide system engineering support to testing, modeling and simulation (M&S), and engineering analysis; hardware/software-in-the-loop (HIWL/SWIL) testing; integrating and testing new or modified code; draft, prepare, revise, and review design documentation and test processes/procedures; and perform other engineering tasks, including mechanical, thermal, electrical, structural, and other specialized system engineering to support mission development for space technology, spacecraft, and high-altitude balloon experiment designs.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

5+ years of systems engineering experience on complex defense systems (communications systems is highly preferred).

Active Top Secret SCI clearance (or clearance in eligible status pending assigned billet).

Bachelor's degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Information Technology, computer science or similar from a regionally accredited institution.

Located or ability to relocate to or vicinity of Albuquerque, NM—work to be performed on Kirtland AFB (no remote option available).

Desired Experience:

Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Information Technology, computer science or similar from a regionally accredited institution.

5+ years' experience directly working on an acquisition category (ACAT).

Knowledge and practical experience of the following: employment of artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline, accelerate, and derisk research & development (R&D) and project/program execution; model-based system engineering (MBSE) to create development and support of digital models/twins; developing weapon and/or space-system requirements; conducting and analyzing technical requirement trades; performing modeling and simulation (M&S), field experiments, hardware/software-in-the-loop (HIWL/SWIL) testing; and working with US Space Force (USSF) customers such as AFRL, Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC), and Space Systems Command (SSC) customers.
