Job Summary
Follow prints and specifications to set up, edit, and program CNC lathe machines, preferably 5-axis Mazak machines, to very close tolerances and to operate these machines for precision work using best and safe practices. The employee is expected to have achieved technical proficiency equivalent to a subject-matter expert and can train less senior employees and lead project teams.
Requirements:
Set up and operate CNC Lathe machines, preferably Mazak machines.
Set up and use, modify, if necessary, required fixtures, cutting tools, and work instructions to machine parts to specification
Calculate the appropriate feeds and speeds for cutting operations required to manufacture parts to print
Identify and troubleshoot any problems with machined parts and assist other less skilled employees to resolve problems
Develop a program and prove it out on the machine to get a finished part
Evaluate tool wear and establish tool change frequency.
Perform fixture maintenance and tool replacement edits
Perform all CNC machining processes, including editing G&M codes and offsets (CNC only)
Develop machining process instructions, tool sheets, and/or CNC machining programs as necessary and applicable to the specific machine
Provide assistance to other departments, primarily Manufacturing Engineering, with developing job quotes, machining processes, fixtures, and tooling.
Cross-train and mentor co-workers to share skills and knowledge
Identify and develop product/process improvements and then lead implementation of these improvements
Operate machines using best and safe practices
Must produce parts within required tolerances
Function as a team member and support other teams
Willingness to cross-train on other machines as required
Follow documented processes
Maintain a high degree of quality
Maintain required paperwork
Housekeeping/maintenance of work area and machinery
In order to achieve business objectives, work weeks in excess of 40 hours may be required
Abide by company policies
Employees may be required to present to small groups to conduct training, lead process improvement initiatives, and provide job status updates.

Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED
Minimum of ten (10) years of CNC machinist experience
May substitute two (2) years of experience for an Associate of Arts degree in Machining Technology
May substitute one year of experience for an accredited trade or vocational machining certificate
Experience in the set-up and operation of multiple types of machine shop equipment
Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Mazak 5-axis Integrex
Ability to machine parts to precise specifications
Demonstrated ability, understanding, and experience to guide raw materials through all available processes and end with a finished product that conforms to all specified requirements
Understand the machining properties of multiple materials such as steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and composites.
Ability to modify programs including G&M, conversational, Mazatrol, etc.
Advanced knowledge of the operation and maintenance of machines and tooling
Ability to quote and bid on unique products
Experience utilizing MRP systems for accurate job reporting and assignment of jobs

Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, machinery and equipment, and vibration. Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. While performing some job duties, there is a risk of electrical shock and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment.
Job duties may require work in high, precarious places, work in outside weather conditions, and exposure to extreme temperatures in some cases. The noise level in the working environment is often loud. Because of this environment and associated risks, the use of job-appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing is required.
