This Research Associate role is responsible for performing DNA sequencing in support of Abcam's global antibody development platform.



This position reports to the Scientist, Antibody Development and is part of the Research and Development team located in Waltham, Massachusetts, USA and will be lab-based and on-site. At Abcam, our vision is to be the most influential life sciences company for researchers worldwide.




In this role, you will have the opportunity to:



  • Perform lab-based hands-on work preparing DNA samples for Sanger Sequencing, run samples on a Sequencing instrument according to schedule, upload the data into a cloud-based server, and share, review and discuss data with colleagues.

  • Document procedures and processes related to Sequencing workflows and participate in the implementation, drafting and revision of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Collaborate and communicate progress and updates with local and global scientific teams, clearly, succinctly and on-time.




The essential requirements of the job include:



  • Bachelor's degree in a biological sciences or life sciences field of study is highly preferred.

  • At least one year's experience working in a laboratory-based role including some direct experience with DNA analysis techniques such as Sanger Sequencing or PCR.

  • At least one year's experience using data analysis software tools to compile, analyze and report laboratory-generated data.




Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:



  • Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 50lb (not routinely).

  • This role is primarily lab-based and may involve standing for over 50% of the time.




It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:



  • Routine maintenance and troubleshooting of scientific equipment; experience with programming and/or running automated lab instrumentation is particularly desirable.

  • Statistical analysis and visualization of complex biological data.

  • Ordering, management, storage, shipping and receiving of lab consumables and biological specimens.



The salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $20/hr - $25/hr. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.


This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
