The Department of Defense Child Development Virtual Lab School (DoDVLS) is a custom online learning management system developed by the Ohio State University and used by all Department of Defense and United States Military childcare centers for professional development and certification. The DoDVLS site contains over 800 original videos to support user education and more videos are produced or updated every month.
The Video Editor will support the DoDVLS by editing video for deployment on the VLS website and for use at training events and presentations.
This position will participate in pre-production planning with the DoDVLS content team to create scripts for video projects and identify potential existing or needed footage to complete each scripted video. The position will then use Adobe editing tools to combine footage, voice-overs, and other assets to support the scripts and create video drafts for review by the content team. The video editor will also work with the Video Director to identify existing videos on the site that need to be updated or re-produced and then work with the content team to update and modernize those videos using new or existing footage.
During the production process the video editor will ensure that only consenting subjects appear in public videos, ensure that only best-practices in early childhood care are presented, and that all subjects and practices adhere to the documented standards of DoD and US military childcare. Additionally, the editor must communicate between the video team, content team, and stakeholders on a variety of subject-matter topics including information that may be sensitive, non-public, or restricted.
This position will help to oversee and collaborate with outside contractors such as voice-over artists and graphic designers. The position may also collaborate with contracted video editors as needed for high-volume production periods. You will also be responsible for cataloging and indexing new and existing footage and assets as well as updating older project files to remain current with subject matter standards and editing software compatibility.
