Reports to Director of CFAH through supervisor of CFAH Animal Care. Works in support of the research mission to provide care, husbandry and maintenance of a specific free Turkey flock. This includes daily cleaning, feeding and breeding of the flock. Collecting and cleaning eggs for projects, hatching and rearing chicks for projects. Maintains project rooms for multiple buildings in support of research. Work with poultry, swine and ruminants. Prepare rooms, clean, keep records and maintain in safe condition. Keep records for animal care , welfare, and facility maintenance. Supports other members of CFAH and animal care staff in work in other facilities. Provides weekend and holiday support for animals on a rotational basis - working at least one weekend a month. On call for facility or animal emergencies as needed. Follows SOP's and detailed oriented work, wears PPE appropriate for biocontainment level.
Supports compliance with USDA, IACUC, AAALAC and veterinary regulatory requirements.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED and 1 year of relevant experience. Familiarity and comfort with livestock husbandry and care. Able to lift 50lbs. and use power washing equipment.
Minimum Desired Qualifications
Experience with animal research; basic understanding of bio-safety and personal protective equipment (PPE); ability to use Word, Excel and email.
Additional Education Desired
2-Year College Degree with a Major in animal science
