The Corn & Soybean Virus Lab in Wooster, Ohio is seeking a motivated postdoctoral research scholar to work with the Chair of the Department of Plant Pathology, Dr. Peirce Paul, on projects related to virus transmission through seed. This stakeholder-driven research focuses on two viruses affecting sweet corn seed export: High Plains wheat mosaic virus (HPWMoV) and wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV). The scope of the project is broad with opportunities for the research associate to lead and collaborate on projects investigating co-infection and synergy between the two viruses, performing genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to identify virus resistance genes, and/or examining virus localization in infected seeds using microscopy. There is also the opportunity to collaborate on objectives that include characterizing virus transmission rates through seed, testing seed disinfestation strategies, elucidating virus diversity, and detecting virus infection using remote sensing. We are seeking motivated candidates with relevant experience related to one or more of these project objectives with strong organization and communication skills. The Corn & Soybean Virus Lab is co-located with The Ohio State University, and the postdoc would be hired as a Post Doctoral Scholar at OSU employee through OSU collaborator Dr. Pierce Paul in the Department of Plant Pathology.
The salary is $61,008 and the position would be for 2 years, but may be extended to 3 years pending satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Interested applicants should reach out to Dr. Jennifer Wilson (jennifer.wilson3@usda.gov) with a brief paragraph explaining their interest and relevant experience as well as a curriculum vitae (CV).
