Job Title:Visiting ScholarDepartment:FAES | Entomology

This person in this position will participate in laboratory and field activities in support of research related to pollination and other ecosystem services provided by conservation lands to soybeans.


Duties will include:




  • processing and identifying insect samples




  • data recording and processing




  • managing insect traps and collecting samples in the field




  • equipment assembly and maintenance




  • maintenance and manipulation of honey bee colonies in support of experiments




The candidate will be expected to participate in both lab and field based settings with opportunities to learn a variety of scientific skills, including insect identification and handling both live and dead bees.
The candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds, have no known allergy to honey bee stings and be willing to work under hot conditions and tall vegetation in the field.




A valid driver's license is required




Protective equipment for working with honey bee colonies and training will be provided. Assistant will be required to participate in maintaining lab safety and cleaning the lab as needed. Particular attention to accurate data entry is expected.





MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. 1-2 years of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
