Looking for an experienced Substation Designer to drive Physical and Controls designs for electrical Substations throughout Design and Construction phases (both new construction and upgrades/retrofits)
Will oversee design of high and medium voltage electrical Substations, with some occasional Extra High Voltage (EHV) projects
Must be experienced with Transformers, Breakers, Switches, and Relays; Relay knowledge should include Line Distance, Feeder, and Overcurrent
Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential
This position is 60% Remote and 40% Onsite in the Phoenix, AZ area; travel to Substation sites counts as Onsite work
Some projects can be statewide in Arizona
Out-of-State resources will need to be Onsite in Arizona twice per month
Key Responsibilities:
Independently drive Physical and Controls designs for electrical Substations throughout Design and Construction phases (both new construction and upgrades/retrofits)
Oversee design of high and medium voltage electrical Substations, with some occasional Extra High Voltage (EHV) projects
Ability to handle up to 90% of the design work independently for maintenance projects, with initial requirements provided by engineers
Oversee the production of one-line diagrams, conceptual designs, plan-section drawings, foundation, grounding, specifications, schematics, wiring diagrams, and any additional drawings needed to complete a comprehensive set of construction documents to build Substations of varying sizes and voltages
Work amongst a cross-discipline design team, owners, and contractors to develop drawings and specifications
Coordinate with external vendors, design firms, internal design teams, and manufacturers
Develop estimates and refine scope of work from sponsors
Qualifications:
5+ years of Substation Physical and Controls design experience for both maintenance and new capital projects
Must be experienced with Transformers, Breakers, Switches, and Relays; Relay knowledge should include Line Distance, Feeder, and Overcurrent
Understanding Zones of Protection, including the differences between Bus Differential and Transformer Differential Relays
Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential
Experience with Meridian by SolidCAD is preferred
Familiarity with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards, particularly those related to Substation Design, specifically IEEE Standard P80 as a grounding standard
Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) is preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent real-world work experience will be considered
