Job Description: Essential Duties: 1. Perform preventive maintenance such as changing oil, greasing and replacing components on a scheduled basis. 2. Troubleshoot/diagnose heavy equipment malfunctions and replace parts, repair, rebuild as necessary. 3. Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools. 4. Read blueprints and follow service manuals and parts lists in setting up and perform repairs and any rebuilds. 5. Utilize work orders and requisitions for ordering parts and maintenance of equipment cost records. 6. Advise when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when continued operation will have no harmful effect. 7. Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures and State and Federal environmental regulations. Other Duties: 1. Operate equipment to diagnose problems and to test operate after repair. 2. Operate light vehicles to travel throughout the mine site. 3. Maintain shop area in a safe and clean manner. 4. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Background in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment including ability to read, understand and use prints and manuals. Knowledge of mechanical, i.e. engine, transmission, drive train; pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and air conditioning systems. Skill in diagnosing malfunctions. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and be willing to work 12 hour rotating shifts. Education, Training and Experience: On-the-job experience or vocational training.
