The Groundskeeper - Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining groundskeeping equipment and heavy construction equipment and for maintaining and repairing campus grounds, irrigation systems, walkways and parking areas; may perform as a lead during a supervisor' absence; does related work as required. The Groundskeeper - Equipment Operator will also perform maintenance and tasks related to landscape, hardscape, municipal and athletic maintenance and other duties as assigned.
Major Responsibilities:
The candidate will be required to work 1 weekend day.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Such as may have been gained through graduation from high school or GED equivalent supplemented by coursework in horticulture operations and practices is required; one year of experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment and landscaping equipment is required; six months of experience in grounds maintenance is required; must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts Driver's License. Additionally, candidate must have or be able to provide within 6 months from date of hire Massachusetts 2A/1C Hoisting License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Massachusetts (MDAR) Pesticide Applicator License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of and skill in the safe operation of heavy construction equipment (skid steers, backhoes, loaders, hydraulic boom lifts, forklifts, dump trucks etc.) and landscape equipment (mowers, edgers, chippers, trimmers, chainsaws, shovels, hoes, brooms, blowers, vacuums, hoses, pressure washers, grinders and chemical applicators); knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations; ability to read, understand and apply oral and written instructions and labels; ability to operate tractor mounted equipment; ability to work effectively as a member of a team or independently; ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods; ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions; ability to work varied shifts and irregular hours during inclement weather (this position is considered essential personnel); ability to safely operate groundskeeping equipment and tools; ability to bend, stoop and twist; ability to climb ladders and stairs; ability to lift and carry bags, containers and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds; ability to perform preventive maintenance on equipment operated; ability to drive tractors, skid steers, dump trucks, delivery vehicles, vans and heavy equipment; ability to use respiratory protection equipment; ability to work safely; must be able to use web based technology (email, payroll/time reporting) and communicate via 2-way radio and telephone; must maintain a positive, professional relationship with all members of the Clark Community
SUPERVISION: This position works under the general supervision of the Grounds Superintendent and/or their designee; assignments are received in the form of weekly or seasonal work schedules, daily work orders or oral and written instructions; the Grounds Superintendent and/or their designee schedules, assigns, inspects and approves work and is available to answer questions or troubleshoot problems on a daily basis; after an initial orientation period, work is performed independently or as a member of a team; supervision of others is not a normal responsibility of this position, however, this position has responsibility for training and instructing student assistants and Groundskeepers on equipment operation and this position may plan, assign, approve, instruct, set priorities and schedule the work of others in the absence of the Grounds Superintendent and/or their designee
