Job purpose



This position assist Flitchwood and the Rotary plant in Mellen, Wisconsin. The location will be determined by Alder needs and will fluctuate on a week-to- week basis. This position will also have a variety of job duties that will include but not be limited to piling veneer on proper piles, lifting boards in the hole, clipping and crating for four slicers, forklift operator and more.



Duties and responsibilities



Specific responsibilities of the Flitchwood/Rotary Relief include:




  • Pilling veneer on proper piles, piling on the grade lines, DC piling, etc.

  • Lifting boards in the hole and clipping and crating for four slicers.

  • Communicate to service when loads are filled to be pulled off the line.

  • Knowledgeable of safe and proper piling techniques.

  • Support and follow standardized work.

  • Communicate with grader.

  • Determining proper safety procedures (LOTO, JSA, REACH) needed to safely and efficiently complete tasks.

  • Forklift Operation

  • Must be able to push/pull up to 80# and grip/carry up to 50#'s.

  • Working mandatory overtime to ensure daily tasks are completed.

  • This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and is subjective to needs of the department. Further duties may be assigned or amended by the Team Leader, VSM or plant manager.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Requires the ability to read, write and use basic arithmetic. On the job training is provided and this position requires approximately 1 to 3 months to become proficient.


KNOWLEDGE OF: Knowledgeable of natural veneer defects, species, and mechanical defects. Basic knowledge of our entire process and product use is beneficial.


SKILLS REQUIRED: Ability to read, understand, and follow standard operating instructions. Ability to apply basic grade specifications. Ability to efficiently pile veneer stacks. Ability to use mechanical lifts to adjust load height.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate with others at all levels in both oral and written methods.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read a tape measure.


Individual should effectively communicate with the coworkers and perform their job in a safe manner.



Working conditions and Personal Protective Equipment



WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. A wide array of personal protections is required: Safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, steal toes, and other forms dependent upon job duties and location.



Physical requirements



PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, push/pull up to 80#, lift, grip and carry up to 50#; use hands to handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
