Job Title:Laboratory Research Operations - Mesonet Field TechnicianDepartment:FAES | Agriculture and Natural Resources

Candidate (Mesonet Technician) will assist the Laboratory Research Operations Specialist S3 (Mesonet Manager) in the installation of new Mesonet (weather observing stations). Duties include siting and installation of engineered towers and other station infrastructure, installing and testing sensors and electronic equipment, routine travel to Mesonet sites for site maintenance with the possibility of overnight stays for the purpose of troubleshooting, repairing, and/or replacing failed sensors and electronic equipment on a deadline basis, operating power equipment to maintain site vegetation, performing calibrations of sensors at Mesonet observing sites and at Mesonet headquarters in Columbus, submitting paperwork and digital metadata on a deadline basis to document sensor problems and site conditions/inspections, serving as a point of contact and interacting with site hosts, representing the Ohio Mesonet at professional meetings and trade shows, establishing new collaborations and funding opportunities, and taking on additional duties as needed. Minimal research may be requested to investigate new equipment and performance analysis.



Candidate must have a valid driver's license, availability to work a flexible schedule that occasionally includes overnight travel, ability to lift and carry heavy objects (45 pounds and over), ability to climb and work from a ladder (up to 10 feet) where agility or balance is an issue, ability to work outdoors with regular exposure to the extremes of Ohio weather, ability to work independently and in collaboration with others, and strong organizational skills and attention to detail are a must.




This is 12 month temporary position.

The pay range for this profile is $17.21-$22.77/hourly. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
