Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, improve lives. The School's curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.


Position Summary:

The Family Support Program Coordinator coordinates specialized support programs focusing on families of children with special healthcare needs, developmental disabilities, and behavioral health challenges within the Family Support Program. One of the major responsibilities of our Family Support Program Coordinator will be to coordinate and implement family support work done through the Family Support Network (FSN) University Office's catchment area of Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham and Person counties. This effort includes overseeing, coordinating and implementing support groups and trainings, providing information and referral, service system navigation, and parent matching services for families, representing the FSN University Office in local committees and building community partnerships. This position will retain data regarding FSN University Office services and will contribute to quarterly reports. The FSP Program Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining the report database to ensure our funders are receiving accurate data.


Additionally, the Family Support Program Coordinator will be responsible for the continued development and coordination of the statewide FSN parent matching program which requires overseeing the parent match requests, coordinating matches with FSN affiliates, and maintaining a statewide parent matching database. This position will represent FSN/FSP at various conferences/event tables and resource fairs.


This position will participate in projects supporting family voice and disability justice/advocacy on various grant funded projects through participant recruitment, project design, and resource/training development. This position will participate in statewide committees and workgroups to enhance family voice in disability focused work as requested by Program Manager.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to consulting or developing course content, curriculum, instructional technique/technology, distance education design, development or implementation, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience in navigating systems and coordinating and implementing family support services with families.
Experience developing and providing trainings and workshops for families and professionals
Transportation is required, as the FSP Program Coordinator will be traveling independently around the 5-county region


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Degree in Human Services
Experience supporting families and community members in identifying resources
Personal experience caring for and navigating services for family members with disabilities/special healthcare needs/behavioral health challenges


Special Physical/Mental Requirements:

Must be able to lift 20 lbs. and bend (to lift tables/boxes at tabling events and presentations)
