Title: Engineer III, Manufacturing Engineering
Location: Hillsboro, OR (fully onsite)

As a world leader in electron microscopes, innovation is at the core of what we do. We in Beam Technologies are responsible for the electron beam microscope operations engineering. We make the electron and ion microscopes as well as the source emitters for all Thermo Fisher products. We are the experts in ultra-high vacuum and micrometer level manufacturing. No two days are the same as we support a wide initiative of projects and improvements to scale our electron microscope business worldwide. We are looking for an expert industrial engineer to join our growing team and lead engineering initiatives that streamline operational processes in our expanding factory.
What will you do?
Lead efforts in analyzing current ion and electron microscopy production processes and workflows and identify areas for improvement. Develop strategies to improve process, increase quality and reduce waste.
Conduct detailed analysis of column and source assembly and test data using statistical methods and software tools (e.g. JMP, Practical Process Improvement -PPI, etc.). Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommend solutions.
Identify and implement strategies to reduce cost of manufacturing without compromising quality or efficiency.
Analyze workforce requirements and capacity constraints to optimize labor and equipment utilization, clean room workspace layout, and resource allocation needed to support growing production output.
Lead projects for continuous improvement from inception to completion. Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement systems that integrate human, machine, and materials in the most efficient manner.
Evaluate and recommend the use of new technologies, automation, and software systems to improve manufacturing processes and increase factory efficiencies.
Ensure compliance with health and safety laws, industry standards, and environmental requirements for all operation improvements and system designs.
Provide training and support for colleagues and production personnel on new processes and systems to enhance the skills of the operations team as we continue to support factory growth.
How will you get here?
University degree in Industrial Engineering. Master's degree a plus.
5+ years of experience in industrial engineering roles, with a strong background in process improvement, operations management, and systems design. Background in vacuum and micrometer scale manufacturing technologies a plus.
Proven expertise with process improvement and statistical problem-solving methods (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.).
Be a self-starter. Integrate with a high functioning group of open collaborative peers to help each other achieve high standards of work.
Willingness to work in high-tech industry manufacturing environment
Demonstrated ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of multi-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites.
Must have a professional working proficiency in written and spoken English.
Exhibit written and verbal communication skills in peer-to-peer interaction as well as in networking with senior internal and external personnel in own expertise area.
