Drives technical projects and improvements for the evaluation and implementation of automation and controls improvements to enhance the efficiency, quality, compliance, customer service, and safety of Austin pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. Evaluate existing process controls, suggest and evaluate controls improvements. Work closely with maintenance. Provide technical support to projects, including automation design, implementation, and validation. Works on projects with more experienced engineers and managers.
This position is 100% onsite at our Austin, TX manufacturing facility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop thorough understanding of assigned equipment and machine controls, working to become SME. Participate in and start to lead equipment troubleshooting and problem solving.
Completes independent analysis to identify and evaluate opportunities for process equipment, machine control, and network/server improvements.
Provide project scope, design, FAT, SAT, start-up, commissioning and validation for equipment and control systems.
Create and update P&IDs, wiring schematics and I/O drawings for the controls systems.
Provides technical input for project scope development and execution.
Develops approaches and designs where precedent usually exists.
Successfully implement control system improvements.
Provide engineering controls design and programming including development, modifying and troubleshooting of AC/DC Drives, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, Vision Systems and Robot Controllers.
Trains new employees on use of HMIs, equipment, system and equipment documentation, and department procedures.
Delivers communications tailored to the needs of the receiver (managers, peers, customers) with appropriate frequency to maximize its utility and promote cross-functional collaboration.
Work on special projects as they arise.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
Programming skills: Rockwell, Factory Talk, WonderWare, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Zenon, 505 Workshop, or Lookout.
Competent in your domain. Familiar with other areas of domain expertise within the team.
Has a basic understanding of best practices. Has a basic to intermediate understanding of engineering discipline.
Have awareness of the broader equipment strategy and contribute to it.
Ability to receive general project direction and solicit input from more experienced engineers.
Requires the ability to independently make decisions that impact the attainment of project objectives.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree is required, preferably Electrical engineering. Other engineering disciplines may also be considered: Chemical, Mechanical, or Biomedical engineering.
Minimum of 2 years of experience required. Preferred experience: controls or automation engineering, developing machine and process control systems, in one of pharmaceutical, food, or cosmetic industries.
