General Summary
The Teacher Education Program is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in Early Childhood Education to begin Fall 2025. Faculty members are expected to focus on teaching, scholarship, and service as well as collaborate with colleagues across the university. The candidate will teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students within in-person and online learning environments.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsibilities include teaching and advising students at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels.
• The candidate will teach courses in Early Childhood Education in a cutting-edge undergraduate teacher preparation program focusing on inclusive practices and early childhood special education.
• The candidate will be expected to maintain an integrated focus in teaching, scholarship, and service and collaborate with colleagues throughout the university and professional community.
• The candidate will be expected to work with students on and off campus (i.e., field placements), face-to-face and online, and demonstrate commitment to working with diverse students and community partners.
• Create and co-construct transformative curriculum and enact pedagogy to reflect and support inclusive excellence in teaching and learning within early childhood education
• Provide academic advising to diverse students.
• Provide service to the ECE program area, department, college, and university committees and impact local and global communities.
• Contribute to scholarship and explore interdisciplinary implications and academic pursuits to add to the field and remain current in their field of study.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Curriculum & Instruction, or very closely related field completed by the date of appointment from a regionally accredited institution earned by Fall 2025.
• Prior early childhood classroom teaching experience (birth through 3rd grade).
• An active research/scholarly agenda and accomplishments related to the appointment
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and justice evidenced in teaching, scholarship, and service in higher education contexts.
• Previous higher education teaching experience within in-person and online contexts.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Higher education teaching experience with field-based and/or community-based teacher-educator preparation
• Minimum of 5 years combined experience with two or more of the following populations: working with infants and toddlers / Lead Preschool Teacher, and/or a classroom teacher in a K-3 classroom.
• Experience in the development and/or implementation of Individualized Family Service Plans and/or Individual Education Plans.
• Experience mentoring and/or advising undergraduate and graduate students from diverse populations.
• Scholarship impacting best practice in inclusive early childhood education environments
• Expertise in educational technologies and their impact on teaching practice.
The successful candidate will serve an eight-month, tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor rank. A competitive salary will be based on qualifications and prior experience. Eastern Michigan University may consider up to two years of credit for service at another institution at the Assistant Professor rank.
