Job Details:

Mercer University is searching for an Admissions Counselor on the Atlanta, Georgia campus.


Responsibilities:

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for the recruitment and admissions of working adult students into undergraduate programs offered by the College of Professional Advancement for the Atlanta Campus and Distance Learning. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recruitment travel, inquiry development, student interviewing, professional presentations, and correspondence. Reporting to the Director of Adult Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment, this position works regularly with the Marketing and Communications for ATL/RAC, all Academic Program Directors, as well as staff members engaged in admissions, alumni and development, and career service functions.

Duties include:

  • Manage the recruitment of qualified students by participating, as needed, through feeder institution visits and presentations, general college fairs, corporate visits, open houses, Chamber events, etc.

  • Ability to understand the specific needs of working adult students.

  • Planning, organizing and management skills.

  • Knows how to use Microsoft Office products to maintain accurate prospect management.

  • Polished presentation/public speaking skills, fine-tuned organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to conduct interviews and presentations to prospective students and their families.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written abilities that positively reflect upon Mercer University with diverse populations, which are vital to the success of this position.

  • Ability to meet and exceed set goals.

  • Availability to travel to event locations (sometimes driving long distances requiring overnight stays) during early morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed.

  • Capability to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree (preferably in business, marketing, leadership, counseling or education) from an accredited college/university is required. Candidates who have prior experience in admissions/recruitment or a similar sales oriented role preferred. Candidates should have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications for letters, mailings, etc.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.
